WHAT WE DO

The Warrior Woman Foundation provides holistic evidence-based support programs for under-represented vulnerable young Australian women aged 17- 25+ years who lack the necessary familial or community support to become resilient and independent. We have a particular focus on young women at risk of not completing their final years of high school, young women leaving the out-of- home care system and young women who would simply benefit from some guidance and direction.

Our flagship program, the 6-month Young Warrior Woman Program combines life-skills education, mental health support, and the connection to a safe and nurturing group of female mentors. The program has a strong focus on financial literacy and job readiness, as well as trauma healing, self-awareness, and personal growth.

The program bridges the gap between adolescence and the “emerging adulthood” stage. To ensure that these young women do not fall through the cracks we provide a strong safety net of support which includes peer support, group mentoring and weekly one-to-one mentoring. Based on the Self Determination Theory, the Young Warrior Woman Program is designed to foster independence and overall well-being.

Connection

We provide a safe and welcoming space for the young women we support, so that they can share, learn, heal, and grow. We believe that healing can happen through connection, so we link each young woman into a diverse network of community minded women who provide group mentor support and a plethora of life experiences, resources, and opportunities.

The Warrior Woman Foundation endeavours to work in collaboration with as many community and business leaders in each local government area to strengthen support services for young women in each local community.

Life-Skills Education

We believe that education and employment are key to a young woman’s independence, but for many young vulnerable women who have had traumatic experiences it is equally important to address mental wellbeing and nurture confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth first. Therefore, we provide group psychotherapy sessions facilitated by a highly skilled and experienced team of trauma informed psychotherapists who specialise in the strength-based method of Gestalt Therapy.

Mental Health Support

We teach the necessary life skills for young women to succeed in everyday life and have a strong focus on financial literacy and job readiness. Our mission is to empower young women to become resilient independent women capable of taking their place in the world, so we believe it is important for us to adopt a “teach a young woman to fish” approach. So, we are there to support and guide them through every step of the way knowing that true empowerment comes from them doing it themselves. Our goal is for every young woman who comes into our care, to leave with a strong sense of identity, confidence, and purpose.

Many young women experience trauma which negatively impacts their confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. We support and nurture the trauma healing process in safe psycho-educational workshops facilitated by experts. In these sessions, young women learn to engage with self-compassion, and to soften and contain threat-based emotions, such as fear and anxiety, anger, shame and self-criticism.

We teach young women the life skills they need to succeed in everyday life. Our “teach a young woman to fish” approach gives them support and guidance at every step, knowing that true empowerment comes from them learning to do things for themselves. In particular, we focus on financial literacy and job readiness:

  • Life-skills workshops to build self-reliance.
  • A six-week Financial Literacy program (in partnership with MoneyGirl).
  • A four-week Job Readiness program.
  • Assistance in gaining and retaining meaningful employment.
  • Access to a range of vocational skills scholarships (e.g., Code Like a Girl) and internships.

We provide a safe and welcoming space for young women to share, learn, heal and grow. Each young woman is connected with a mentor as well as a network of diverse community-minded women who provide ongoing support and share their life experiences, resources and opportunities:

  • Connection to a safe, stable, and socially inclusive network of female role models to turn to for advice and ongoing support for the duration of the six-month program.
  • Connection to a non-judgmental group of young women who are facing similar challenges.
  • Connection to Kindred Warrior Peers, young women who have experienced challenges in life and have gone on to achieve life success.
  • Weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions with a safe mentor.
